What are the best young adult novels?

NPR wants your help in creating a list of the 100 best YA novels of all time.

I’m not going to lie, this was tough. My first entry was as follows:

  1. The Queen’s Thief series by Megan Whalen Turner
  2. The Piper’s Son by Melina Marchetta
  3. The Lumatere Chronicles by Melina Marchetta
  4. Graffiti Moon by Cath Crowley
  5. Chime by Franny Billingsley

These are books that I have read over and over again and love pretty much everything about them. Obviously, there are several more books that fit those qualifications, so I did a second entry (because everyone needs to discover the awesomeness of Jellicoe Road for themselves and cry like a little baby just like I did with Code Name Verity).

What titles would you add to this list?

Did you know that Lois Lowry is coming out with a fourth book in the Giver series (quartet?)? It’s called Son and I believe it’s being released in October. The Giver is one of the few books that I read in school that I haven’t intentionally tried to block from my mind — it made a big impact on me.
