Reading Is Good For You

Book Reviews, Literary News, and Thoughts on Life

Why am I reading this book?

Given the ridicuous amount of teen angst, characters I wished to throttle more than not, and a potentially squicky relationship, I wasn’t a huge fan of the first three books in Cassandra Clare’s Mortal Instrument series. So why on earth have I checked the latest installment, City of Fallen Angels, out from the library? It doesn’t bode well for this book if I’m already rolling my eyes simply by reading the blurb on the jacket. Why am I tormenting myself in this manner? I suppose I feel like I’ve come this far, so I ought to see it through, rather like I did with Robert Jordan’s neverending Wheel of Time series and that copycat dragon one by that Paolini kid (though I did eventually say enough is enough with the latter).

Are there any series or authors that you feel obligated to stick with, regardless how disappointed or annoyed you’ve been in the past?
